Dr. Ben J. Miller is a Senior Learning Designer at LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. where he is responsible for the educational quality of content and pedagogy across a variety of learning products including games, toys and other interactive platforms. Essentially, he is an elf-scientist in the education department of Santa's Workshop working hard to develop toys that engage children in fun ways to learn and play!
Ben is also the Director of Membership for the Bay Area chapter of the Children's Media Association Bay Area, a nonprofit organization comprised of professionals who are committed to creating and distributing thoughtful, entertaining media to children and young adults.
Ben is a graduate from the Educational Psychology & Learning Sciences doctoral program at The University of Iowa. His research focuses on how to best utilize frameworks of learning theory and media engagement to better understand the role of technology in instructional design within healthcare settings. Ben thrives on curating digital media and games that promote learning and help children cope with challenging healthcare experiences.
In addition to researching learning and engagement, Ben has experience in the professional field putting theory into practice. He has worked for several organizations — including American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American College Testing (ACT, Inc.), and the The University of Iowa College of Nursing — to develop learning modules that enhance leadership communication skills, certify professional tutors, and foster therapeutic support during medical procedures, respectively.
